National Security Guard (NSG) will be conducting security drills over next three days at the Gandhinagar-based office of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and at state secretariat following intelligence inputs on likely terror threat to important government installations.
"NSG will conduct security drills for three days in Gandhinagar from tomorrow in view of inputs by Central and state intelligence agencies of possible terror threats to the important building and government offices here," Gandhinagar SP Sharad Singhal said here today.
He said NSG will also conduct tomorrow a drill at Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar, which had witnessed a terror strike in September 2002 in which 32 people had been killed.
"Security drill will be conducted at entire secretariat building on March 26 and at Swarnim Sankul (the office of Modi and other ministers) on March 27," Singhal said.
"A large contingent of NSG including its top ranking officers, along with Gandhinagar police, Chetak commando unit of the state government, state ATS and other police personnel will also take part in the drill," he said.
The BJP has been demanding adequate security for Modi and other leaders of the party saying there is a threat to his life.
However, Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde yesterday said in Mumbai there was no threat to the life of Modi and his security has already been upgraded.
Gandhinagar police have appealed to general public to not fall prey to any rumour during these three days.
Modi will be campaigning in various parts of the country on March 26 and 28 during the NSG exercise.
