NSVC resolves to step up rabies control drive

The Nagaland State Veterinary Council (NSVC) as part of the observation of World Veterinary Day today resolved to work towards enhancement of professional efficiency and also undertake rabies control initiative.
Nagaland joined the world in celebrating the day under the aegis NSVC on the theme "Continuing Education with a One Health Focus" in the state capital this afternoon.
Commissioner and Secretary to the State Government for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, M K Mero addressing the veterinarians on the occasion called upon the state veterinary doctors to continue to educate themselves to gain professional efficiency and improve the health of animals, human beings and environment.

Reminding veterinarians that veterinary profession and science are constantly evolving, he said continuing education is essential to keep their knowledge updated with the latest development, skills and new technologies so as to enable them efficiently control health risks.
Mero said that as per a study report, 60 per cent of known human infection diseases have their origins from animals, so also 75 per cent of emerging human diseases have their roots in animals such as Anthropoid-borne disease like Ebola and Yellow Fever, Rodent-borne diseases like Avian Flu etc.
The Commissioner and Secretary therefore also stressed on the need for greater cooperation between the veterinary science, public health services and environments.

Meanwhile, on the occasion, Dr Michael Imti Imchen was awarded the Best Veterinarian of the State.
Around 80 veterinarians from across the state participated in the programme, wherein two technical sessions were conducted on "Dynamics of Disease Causation with one health perspective" and "FSSAI and role of State Veterinary Department".
