NTPC plans two more power projects in Madhya Pradesh

State-owned NTPC, which today laid the foundation stone for a 1,600-MW power plant in Madhya Pradesh, plans to set up two more projects in the state.
NTPC already has a few projects in Madhya Pradesh, including the 4,260-MW Vindhyachal thermal power station. One more unit of 500 MW is under construction at Vindhyachal. The company is also working on a 50-MW solar plant at Rajgarh in the state.
The company plans to set up two more projects at Khargone and Barethi in Madhya Pradesh, NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Arup Roy Choudhury said in a statement.
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Gadarwara plant.

Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia laid the foundation stone for the first 800 MW unit of Gadarwara project. The plant would have two units of 800 MW each.
According to the Minister, the project would ultimately have a generation capacity of 3,200 MW entailing a total investment of nearly Rs 25,000 crore, the statement said.

Coal for the Gadarwara plant would be sourced from the Talaipalli block in Mand-Raigarh coalfields.
Half of the electricity generated from the plant would be supplied to Madhya Pradesh while the rest would be provided to other states in the Western region.
At present, NTPC has an installed generation capacity of 42,464 MW.
