The stock climbed 7.62 per cent to Rs 137.55 at BSE.
On NSE, it jumped 7.58 per cent to Rs 137.65.
The stock was the top gainer on Sensex and Nifty indices.
NTPC yesterday posted around 40 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 2,898.28 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, on account of higher power generation.
"The company has posted a net profit of Rs 2898.28 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2015 as compared to Rs 2071.63 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2014," NTPC Ltd had said a BSE filing.
NTPC further said that the revenue from power generation increased to Rs 17,950.28 crore compared with Rs 16,805.73 crore in the year-ago period.
