"NTPC has made small beginning with sale of surplus power from its power stations in Singrauli, Vindhyachal, Rihand, Unchahar and Dadri through Power Exchange recently. The company has already traded 3.7 MUs (million units) of power till date," it said in a statement today.
According to a company statement yesterday, NTPC has traded surplus power from its four thermal power stations including Vindhyachal and Unchahar at the IEX for the first time.
The decision for sale of power through exchange is based on the amendment issued to Tariff Policy in January, allowing the generating companies to sell surplus power in the market with the consent of beneficiary and share the incremental gain with them making it a win win situation for both, it said.
Going forward, other companies like NHPC, Neyveli Lignite, etc are also expected to participate in the market to sell their un-requisitioned surplus, creating a new opportunity for the markets.
NTPC's installed capacity is 47,178 MW.
It recorded highest ever gross generation of 241.98 billion units (BU) during 2015-16.
NTPC coal stations achieved a plant load factor (PLF)of 78.61 per cent during the year 2015-16, which is highest among central, state and private sector companies in the country.
