Number of fatal accidents in factories rise to 1,417

The number of fatal accidents in various factories across the country moved up to 1,417 in 2013 from the previous year, Parliament was informed today.
The number of fatal accidents in factories across country were 1,417 in 2013; 1,383 in 2012 and 1,433 in 2011, revealed a written reply to Lok Sahba by Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya.
The number of non-fatal accidents was 26,953 in 2013, 28,441 in 2012 and 28,404 in 2011 as per the information collected by Chief Inspector of Factories.
As per the reply, there are no registered factories in Arunachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Mizoram and Sikkim.
The data further revealed that as far as fatal accidents are concerned Gujarat tops the chart in 2013 with 218 accidents, followed by 199 in Maharashtra and 137 in Andhra Pradesh.
Similarly, the maximum number of non-fatal accidents in 2013 were reported in West Bengal at 19,250 followed by 2,285 in Gujarat and 2,013 in Gujarat.
As per the statement, as many as four workers died in fatal accidents at various construction sites of central sphere in 2015 till January 31 compared to 36 in 2014 and 13 in 2013.
In a separate reply the minister said: "Employees' State Insurance Corporation Medical College project at Naroda in Ahemdabad is not to be taken up as the ESIC has decided to exit from filed of medical education entirely.
The ESIC has decided to exit the medical education business as it is not the core function of the ESIC. It is focusing on providing medical care services to insured persons.
