Health authorities of Guizhou Province's launched an investigation amid public outrage following local media reports saying a nurse slashed the face of the child suffering from a congenital heart disease.
The child died the next day.
The investigation found that the action seriously violated the nursing norms and reflected the loss of work ethics of the medical staff, the provincial health bureau said in a statement yesterday.
The person in charge of the intensive care unit at the Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital was suspended and the head nurse was also removed from her post, it added.
Meanwhile, the hospital struck a settlement with the dead child's family over the medical dispute, the report said.
