Nursing student raped, commits suicide

A 19-year-old nursing student, who was abducted and raped by two youths, allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance, police said today.
The girl, a resident of Dariyawala village who was pursuing auxiliary nursing midwifery course at Kandela village here, was on Thursday waiting for a bus to return home when Sumit and Gulab, abducted her, they said.
The victim was abducted from Jind-Patiala chowk here by the youths raped her at a secluded spot, police said.
Later, they dumped the girl near her village and escaped.
Upon reaching her home, the victim consumed poison after which she was rushed to a hospital by her family members.
She died in the wee hours yesterday.
Before her death, she recorded her statement before the Duty Magistrate and the police.
The postmortem confirmed that the victim was raped, police said.
A case of gangrape, kidnapping and abetment to suicide was registered at Sadar police station against the two youths.
Sumit, a resident of Khanpur Barwala village in Jind district, and Gulab of Kirmara village in Hisar district, had been arrested today, SHO and Investigating Officer in the case, Sub Inspector, Santosh Devi said.
"During investigations, we zeroed-in on the accused from their mobile phone location," she said.
