Goa cabinet today increased the reservations for the other backward classes (OBC) in the government jobs and educational institutes to 27 per cent.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar made the announcement here. Earlier the OBC quota was 19.5 per cent.
He said 26.26 per cent of the families in the state belong to OBC category, which comprises 19 castes.
The state has provided 12 per cent reservations for the scheduled casts and two per cent for scheduled tribes.
Parrikar said the creamy layer among the OBCs has been excluded; income condition for defining creamy layer has been raised to Rs 6 lakh per annum from Rs 4.5 lakh per annum.
"This (increase in the reservations) is one of the assurance given by BJP in election manifesto," Parrikar said.
