Speaking at the 80th Odisha Police Foundation Day after taking salute of an impressive parade at the police headquarters here, the DGP said the Naxal menace, organised crimes and economic and cyber offences are now the major challenges of the state police.
"Although, we have been able to contain the Naxal menace to a great extent in the state, yet we need to do more to nip it in the bud", Marik said adding that police modernisation is on to accomplish the mission.
Calling upon the police force to be "careful" and "receptive" towards the poor, downtrodden, minorities, women and children, the DGP said police force is an important wing in the democratic set-up of the country and the force is always answerable to the common man.
Several policemen were awarded cash prizes by the DGP for their achievements on the occasion.
