Odisha gets 17.4% deficit rainfall in August

Three districts of Odisha recently faced a flood like situation due to incessant rains, but the state got an average rainfall of 293.9 mm during August against the long term average (LTA) of 356.0 mm, registering a shortfall of 17.4 per cent.
Malkangiri district, which faced flash flood recently, received the highest rainfall of 493.8 mm and Boudh district received the lowest rainfall of 192.0 mm during the month of August, official sources said.
The cumulative rainfall of the state from June to August remained 842.4 mm against the LTA of 912.4 mm, which accounts for a shortfall of 7.7 per cent.
Gajapati and Ganjam districts received surplus rainfall of more than 19 per cent during the period from June 1 to August 31, the sources said.
Eighteen districts which received normal rainfall are Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Khurda, Koraput, Puri, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Nayagarh, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Bhadrak during this period.
Rainfall in 10 districts remained deficit between June and August, they said. The districts are Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Nuapada, Jajpur, Bolangir, Boudh, Angul and Dhenkanal.
