Odisha registers 1505 rape cases till November this year

Odisha Police have registered 1505 rape cases including 83 gang rape incidents and killing of 461 women in dowry related incidents till November this year.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who also holds home portfolio, said this while replying to a written question in the Assembly today.
Of the 1505 rape cases, the police filed chargesheet in 209 cases.
As many as 2286 and 2144 rape cases had taken place in 2015 and 2016 respectively, the chief minister said.
He said 1103 cases of murder, 375 of dacoity, 1542 of robbery and 6658 of theft have been registered in the state between January 1 and November 30 this year.
Patnaik said a total of 175 women have become victims of objectionable videos going viral in the last three years in Odisha.
To a question on criminal activities among technical students, he said 123 such students have been found involved in various criminal activities till November, 2017.
Of the 123 students, 75 were from Bhubaneswar followed by 37 from Dhenkanal district.
Last year, 96 technical studies students were booked in various criminal activities, he said.
The chief minister said steps were being taken to fill up vacant posts in the police establishment.
