The accused, Prakash Satre, worked as an assistant in the office of industrialist Venkatesh Kulkarni, Sub-Inspector P P Jadhav of Thane Nagar Police Station said.
Kulkarni is a close associate of a senior Maharashtra Congress leader and has industries in various parts of Thane district.
Between 2011 and January 6, 2015, Satre took a loan of Rs 30 lakh from Kulkarni, citing various reasons. He was also handed over a sum of Rs 6 lakh by Kulkarni for disbursal for land purchases made by the industrialist, Jadhav said.
Besides, Satre had taken away important documents, including land deal papers, from the office, over a period of time. He has not been coming to the office since since January 7, Jadhav said.
An offence of cheating and criminal breach of trust has been registered against Satre, who is absconding, he added.
