Officers review arrangements along Jammu-Srinagar NH for Amarnath pilgrims

Senior officials today reviewed the arrangements made for Amarnath pilgrims along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and stressed on the readiness of quick disaster response teams to deal with exigencies.

Jammu Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma and Inspector General of Police S D Singh Jamwal visited the highway township of Ramban and reviewed the security ahead of the annual yatra with General Officer Commanding Maj Gen Rajive Nanda at Delta Headquarter, an official spokesman said.

The 60-day annual pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre high holy cave shrine is scheduled to start on June 28.

The spokesman said Verma asked officials to put in place an effective response mechanism and stressed on quick response teams to deal with any kind of exigencies.

The officers inspected the community kitchens set up along the highway from Nashri to Jawahar tunnel.

A police spokesman said IGP Jamwal held meetings with department officials in Udhampur and Ramban and advised them to remain alert to presence of anti-national elements and their mentors across the border.
