Officials arrested for accepting bribe

A Revenue Inspector and his assistant were arrested here today on the charges of accepting bribe to the tune of Rs 10,000 from a sand supplier here, official sources said.
The Inspector D Karunanidhi and K Marriyamma, Director, Geology and Mining department, had on May 11 seized five tractors and a lorry of Anbazhahan, a sand supplier for not having proper documents. They also imposed a fine of Rs 1,50,870 on him.
After paying the fine amount, Anbazhalahan got the vehicles back from the police.
The Inspector and his assistant Aarokiyasamy demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe from him to continue the sand supply, following shich he lodged a complaint with DVAC.

The DVAC official arrested both the officials when they were receiving the amount, Rathinavel, Commissioner, DVAC, said.
