A top US senator has urged Apollo Tyres to protect workers and jobs in his state as the Indian company moves ahead with a USD 2 billion deal to buy a leading Ohio-based tyre maker.
"Apollo Tyres should remain committed to the Findlay community where Cooper Tire has been for a century," Senator Sherrod Brown said after meeting senior management leaders from Apollo Tyres, during which he urged them to protect Ohio workers and jobs.
Earlier this summer, Apollo announced that it would merge with Findlay, Ohio-based Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, potentially making Apollo the seventh-largest tyre company in the world.
Cooper has been based in Findlay since 1914.
Brown met with Apollo's Chief Executive Officer Onkar Kanwar and Chief Operating Officer Neeraj Kanwar.
"After meeting with Apollo's senior management leaders, I am pleased to hear that they are already working with the United Steel workers to ensure the growth of this company and to protect Ohio's jobs and workers," the senator said.
"I look forward to working with Apollo Tyres to ensure that it is spurring local economic growth and the rights of its workers now and in the future," Brown said.
