Olympian cyclist passes away

Olympian and former national champion cyclist Tarit Settt passed away at a south Kolkata nursing home this morning after a prolonged illness, according to the West Bengal Cyclists Association.
Sett, 84, is survived by wife, son Abhijit, an international cyclist and daughter Munmun, a state level wheeler.
He was part of a golden era that also had Raj Kumar Mehra, Netai Chand Basak, Supravat Chakrabarty, Pradip Mitra in the 1940s and 50s when Bengal dominated the Indian road and track cycling.
Sett was among the members in the inaugural Asian Games in 1951 in Delhi as well as Helsinki Olympics in 1952.
He also had represented peace race in Warsaw and Berlin in 1954 and 1956 respectively.
