One arrested for sexually assaulting minor girl

The Police today arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the rape of a minor girl in Odisha's Kendrapara district.
The accused Sanjay Mallik (28), a native of Shyamsundar village under Kendrapara Sadar police station jurisdiction has confessed to the crime, the police said.
The victim, studying in class VI, was allegedly sexually assaulted on March 15 and the police swung into action following an FIR lodged by victim's relatives and arrested the accused.
The victim was medically examined and her statement has been recorded. There was corroborative evidence of sexual assault on the minor girl, said the police officers.

The accused person was booked under sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012, IPC 376 (Rape), section 557 (Assault or criminal force in attempt wrongfully to confine a person), section-342 (wrongful confinement) and section-506 (criminal intimidation).
