One held for murder of septuagenarian woman

: One person has been arrested in connection with the murder of a septuagenarian woman and jewellery and a mobile phone stolen from her recovered from him, police said.
Vinodini (77), who was staying alone, was found murdered on December 29 at her residence in remote Kasaba village in Puttur, with her hands and legs tied and her ornaments missing.
Laxman Nayak (32), a resident of Mithanadka at nearby Bantwal was arrested from a bus stand at Puttur in this connection and the mobile recovered from him,Superintendent of police Bhushan Borase told reporters here yesterday.
Laxman had gone to the woman's house on December 23 evening as she asked him to repair a fan.
He hit her on the head with a blunt hard object,strangled her to death with her saree, took her ear rings and gold chain worth Rs 50,000 and fled after locking the main door, Borase said.
