One more patient died of swine flu, taking the toll in Kashmir to five, while 119 have tested positive for the disease so far, health officials said today.
"One more patient infected with H1N1 virus died at the hospital late last night," Dr. Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent of SKIMS, told PTI.
However, Jan said the patient was also suffering from critical cardiac ailments and his death would have most probably happened due to those ailments.
"He was admitted to the cardiology ward of the hospital... However, he tested positive for H1N1 and was kept in the isolation ward," he said.
The doctor said ten more patients tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
"We had taken the samples of 50 patients out of 283 patients with respiratory symptoms which were seen at the Special OPD of the hospital yesterday. Out of those 50, 10 have tested positive," he said.
Jan said 200 patients with respiratory symptoms were seen at the OPD today and samples from 30 patients were taken for testing - the report of which would be available tomorrow.
The medical superintendent said the total number of patients with swine flu admitted at SKIMS is eight.
"We have eight patients right now at SKIMS. Six out of them are stable while two are critical," he said.
