The suspension of work notice was put up by the management of the Auckland Jute Mill at Jagaddal in North 24 Parganas district, DC DD of Barrackpore police commissionerate C Sudhakar said.
Mill workers set up a road blockade on the Naihati-Barrackpore Road and demonstrated demanding increase in work hours after it was reduced recently, Sudhakar said.
"Finding the notice, around 3500 workers of the mill agitated in front of the mill in the morning and blocked the road for nearly 30 minutes," the DC DD said.
H K Maheswari, the CEO of North Brook Jute mill at Bhadreswar on the eastern side of the Hoogly river was lynched by workers on June 15 when the management did not agree to the demands of workers to increase working hours.
