With opposition Congress and INLD alleging foul play in the recent Rajya Sabha polls, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said one should learn to accept defeat.
"One should learn to accept defeat. In democracy, if one wins another loses," he said, adding the rival parties should introspect and find the reason for their defeat.
Asked about the 14 votes declared invalid during the polls, he said the MLAs concerned know better as with what intention they voted.
He said it is wrong to put blame on others. "It is a democratic system, and all the MLAs have voted freely according to their wisdom," Khattar said.
Of the two candidates who won the Rajya Sabha polls from the state, one belonged to BJP and the other was supported by the party, he said.
On the allegations of change of pen by a MLA during election, he said he came to know that Congress has complained to the Election Commission.
Over the agitation by Jats for reservation, he said this issue could be sorted out through mutual dialogue.
Administrative officers have started dialogue with the agitators and it is appreciable that they are prepared for talks, Khattar said.
Earlier, a meeting with their leaders was fixed for June 15, but now it would be held on June 17 on their request, he said.
He said with regard to reservation, an Act was enacted.
"Though the issue is with the high court, efforts were being made to get the stay vacated", said Khattar, adding the state government was "vigorously" defending the case in the court.
Even the government has offered the organisations involved in the agitation that if they intended to hire their lawyer for pleading the case in the court, the state government is ready to pay the fee.
He reiterated that the state government is making best efforts to get the issue resolved.
