"In an encounter with ultras in which around 200 rounds were fired, a rebel was injured this morning. But the naxalites didn't leave him behind. They are carrying the injured with them," Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Neeraj Soni told PTI.
The spot falls under Malanjkhand police station area, around 60 kms away from Balaghat district headquarters.
"We are getting inputs from some time that a Military Dalam of Chhattisgarh has sneaked into our district. So we have ramped up security across the naxal-affected areas in our region," the officer said.
"Police retaliated in self-defence leading to exchange of fire that lasted for an hour," the ASP added.
He said the area was cordoned off by police and a search is on to nab the naxals.
Soni said they have launched a search in the deep jungle to trace the naxals.
