One worker killed, another injured in mishap in Kalahandi dist

One worker was killed and another injured in a mishap at the site of an irrigation project near Kutingpadar in Kalahandi district, officials said today.
The mishap took place in the spillway work site of Ret medium irrigation project yesterday when a structure collapsed during construction work, said Bibhuti Dash, Executive Engineer of irrigation department.
While one worker was killed under its impact, another was critically injured and he is undergoing treatment in the government hospital here, said an official.
Efforts are no to ascertain the cause of the mishap and the circumstances under which the structure collapsed, he said.

Work for Ret Medium irrigation project, which started in 2006 with an estimated cost of Rs 433 crore, was slated to be completed by 2016. Now, with escalated cost of Rs 768 crore, the project and canal work are still incomplete, sources said.
