'Operation Jullay' will be launched in Jammu and Kashmir's Leh district as a step aimed at building confidence among the populace, in the wake of a teenage girl's murder here.
"The district police will soon launch 'Operation Jullay' with an objective of reaching out to the last man of the area and build confidence among the populace," Senior Superintendent of Police Leh, Dr Sunil Gupta said here.
The District Magistrate, Leh, Saugat Biswas held a meeting with SSP, Leh to review the general law and order situation in the district yesterday.
The meeting was conducted in the wake of murder of a teenage girl in Leh town.
The body of a teenage girl was found from a canal at Thiksey near Leh on February 9. The girl was allegedly raped and dumped in the canal in November last year. Sirajuddin, a Muslim cleric from Bihar was arrested yesterday for the crime.
Operation Jullay ('Jullay' meaning greeting in Ladhakhi language) will have various components for finer law and order maintenance in the district, Gupta said adding communication between police and administration will be further enhanced for providing a safe and secure society.
The Magistrate reviewed the investigation of the murder case and issued direction to the district police and the SHO in particular to bring the investigation to its logical conclusion in a time-bound manner.
Biswas further emphasized the need to sensitize the local population towards signs of illegal activities in the town.
The Magistrate appealed to all the citizens of the district to cooperate with the police in their respective areas during the above exercise to make Leh better, safer and secure place to stay.
