"Chief Secretary himself has said that it was the mafia which is not allowing the authorities concerned to provide permanent solution to the garbage menace in the city," JDS Floor Leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said.
He said the Chief Secretary's statement raises questions over government's failure to act against the culprits.
He also alleged the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), city civic body, had given land and financial support to a private person to solve the garbage problem, but he had misused the facilities provided for different business.
BJP member Ashwathnarayan gave three suggestions - namely incineration, composting and biomechanisation - to remedy the garbage problem.
Former Law and Parliamentary Minister Suresh Kumar (BJP) said the government should take immediate step to focus on segregation of garbage.
