Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu today said that the parties opposing NITI Aayog and land acquisition ordinance were doing so merely for the politics and not for the development.

Naidu, who was in city to unveil statue of freedom fighter and designer of the Tricolour Pingali Venkayya here at the All India Radio premises, said all states have a key role in the NITI (National Institute for Transforming India) Aayog to express their views on issues pertaining to economic development.

"Parties opposing the NITI Ayog and land acquisition ordinance, are doing it for politics and not for development. Until and unless we bring economic reforms in the country, the nation cannot meet global challenges in terms of globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation," he said.

The minister said NDA government is bringing economic reforms which are needed in order to transform the country into an economic super power.

Opposition parties need to change their attitude support the government in its initiatives, he said.

Naidu also called for smooth functioning of the Parliament and appealed to the Opposition to respect the democratic structure and have constructive debates in the house.
