Actor and chairperson of Children Film Society of India (CFSI) Mukesh Khanna today slammed the ongoing protest over "growing intolerance", saying opposition is being done "for the sake of opposition" and emphasised that India was the most tolerant country in the "whole world".
Khanna praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'Make in India' and 'Swachh Bharat' initiatives.
"I have been saying this for the last 10 years that opposition is done here for the sake of opposition, not for the country. We are the most tolerant in the whole world. We have all religions here. Tell me another country where people have these advantages? Don't say we are intolerant. We are tolerant," Khanna told reporters here.
"All this intolerance, returning of the awards is just opposition for opposition sake. It makes no difference to me whether you return the award or do something. The common man has no problem, if you return or do something else," he said.
He was replying to queries on the allegations of growing intolerance in the country and return of awards.
Khanna, who is here in connection with the 19th International Children's Film Festival, India (ICFFI) beginning tomorrow, showered praise on the Prime Minister, saying he is a visionary leader par excellence.
He noted that Modi came up with ideas like 'Make in India', and 'Swachh Bharat', which other leaders could not think of earlier.
