"The situtation is extremely critical. We did not allow the political leaders to enter the village as the matter has not yet returned to normal," District Magistrate Abhinav Chandra said.
The police were guarding three locations to stop entry of unwanted persons, Chandra said.
CPI-M leader Anisur Rahaman, Congress leader Manoj Chakraborty and BJP leaders Shamik Bhattacharya were stopped at Bhandar Khola en route to Tehatta.
Criticising the police firing, Rahaman said "Similar incidents of death in police firing took place during Left Front's rule too, but the problem was solved through discussions and not with bullets."
An all-party peace meeting was called at District Magistrate's office in Krishnagar for peace at Tehatta, officials said.
One person was killed and nine others, including eight policemen, were injured in yesterday's police firing and violence.
