A court in Bihar's Vaishali district today held the manager of an orphanage guilty for sexual abuse of children at a home being run by him in a village under Patedhi Belsar block.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge - 1, B.K. Tripathi, passed the order holding the orphanage home manager Praduman Kumar guilty under section 6 and 9 of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offence Act and sections 376 and 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for sodomizing and sexually abusing some destitute children taking shelter at the home being run by him for them.
The quantum of punishment will be pronounced tomorrow, the Special Public Prosecutor Manoj Kumar Sharma said.
On complaint of some destitute children, a case was lodged against the orphanage home owner on October 25 last year, he said.
The shocking incident had come to light after some destitute children were admitted to a hospital in Muzaffarpur district where they had complained about being sexually abused by the orphanage home owner.
Taking the matter seriously, the then Vaishali district magistrate Jitendra Srivastava had directed a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) to probe it following which a medical examination was conducted on the victims during which it was confirmed that they had been sexually abused by the accused who had also committed unnatural sex with some children.
Kumar was subsequently arrested on October 27 last year and and put on speedy trial.
