Achin, the elder of the two, says rejection over the past 10 years did not deter him from trying to make it to the hot seat and win the game.
"Our win is not a flash in the pan. My journey started 10 years back. The reason behind our success was that I did not give up. I did get frustrated at times but did not want to quit. I wanted to keep trying and then I was recently joined by my brother who was preparing for SSC examination," Achin told PTI.
"My father is still in shock. He would not have imagined in the best of his dreams and worst of the nightmares that we will get Rs 7 crore. Our benchmark was Rs 25 lakhs and only when we crossed that, we thought we could do something big," he said.
Achin adds the whole atmosphere on the 'KBC' sets was nerve-wracking and the duo decided to go with the flow rather than plan their moves.
"During the last few questions my brother and I exchanged no notes. We decided to enjoy the moment. There was a lot going in our mind, the background music was quite thrilling, the lights were on us, you have Mr Bachchan facing you and then you also think that you are on national TV. So, it was best to not think much," he said.
"Mr Bachchan makes you comfortable and make sure a candidate is relaxed. He is very kind. After we won, he told us we took a big risk, I said we took a big one but calculated risk. Luckily it paid off," he said.
Achin feels he is living a dream as till a month back he was looking for a new job and now he can start his own business.
"It has been the life-defining moment for me and my family. Till one month back, I was looking for a promotion or changing my job and now everything has changed. I have not made concrete decisions about what we will do with this money but now I can think and explore a lot of things but I know I won't make stupid decisions because I have seen downside of life," he said.
"We want her to recover as soon as possible. Her chemotherapy is over. Now, she is in monitoring phase. Our win is because of her prayers. My first priority is her treatment," he said.
The episode featuring Achin and Sarthak will be aired tomorrow on Sony channel.
