KMC officials said the Corporation had invited tenders for collecting fees from 29 new parking lots, including nine night parking facilities, in the city and today is the last date for submission of tenders.
People were submitting tenders in sealed envelops in a box kept in a room of the KMC headquarters when a group of men suddenly broke the box, snatched some envelops and fled, the officials said.
Mayor Shobhan Chatterjee said "This is an unfortunate and unprecedented incident. The earlier tender invitation stands cancelled. New dates to call for tenders will be announced soon."
Stating that only registered cooperatives were allowed to participate in the tender process, the officials said an FIR was lodged and the police have seized the box.
