Police in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have arrested over 13,000 suspects in anti-terror crackdowns after the federal government formed the National Action Plan (NAP) to quell militancy following the Peshawar school massacre.
In congruence with the action plan, the police arrested 13,144 suspects across the province and seized huge quantity of arms and ammunitions in the past one month, officials said.
Pakistan formed the NAP after the Peshawar school attack on December 16 that killed 150 people, mostly children, in consultation with political parties and the military.
During the operation, 30,259 houses and 8,017 hotels were also searched and 2,724 cases were filed against violators.
In action against Afghans illegally residing in Pakistan, a total of 2,898 people were detained and 1,565 cases were registered.
108 people were arrested for illegal use of loudspeakers.
The police also carried out inspections at 40,129 educational institutions. They were advised to beef up security arrangements, they said.
Schools and other educational institutions have become particularly vulnerable after the brutal Peshawar attack.
