Over 200 teachers served show cause notices

Over 200 lower primary school teachers in Meghalaya whose appointments in 2010 were found 'tainted' were served show cause notices.
"The state government has issued a notice to all those teachers whose appointments were doubtful. They were asked to file their reply within January 10 this year or their service could face termination," a senior official in the Education department told PTI.
He said the show cause notice was issued in line with the recommendation of High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) constituted by the state government to scrutinize and probe into the alleged education job scam unearthed by the report of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last year.

"The High Level Committee having scrutinized the records has found that your candidature is tainted," the notice issued to over 200 teachers said.
The Director School Education and Literacy A C Marak also warned that failure to reply to the show cause will force the department to take action as per law against the teachers.
The state government was forced to terminate teachers whose appointment in lower primary schools were found 'tainted', following a court order on petitions filed by several aggrieved candidates.
A CBI report found that 255 candidates out of 350 managed a back door entry after politicians recommended their names in the appointment of assistant teachers in 2010.

The CBI had also named five cabinet ministers, the former Assembly Speaker and six legislators in the Congress-led coalition government besides other politicians for tampering with the score-sheets of the candidates applying for the posts.
