With support from the UNICEF, the state government initiated a social and mass campaign in the district involving children towards sanitation and hygiene.
The huge participation, is expected to be recorded in the Guinness of World Records and Limca Book of Records, a UNICEF release said.
The current Guinness of World Records belonged to Madhya Pradesh with 10 lakh people participating in the 'Hand Wash'.
The programme commenced at 1.30 PM with the blowing of conch shells and siren with the main event taking place at Barasat's Kachhari Maidan along with similar events at various schools and administrative buildings.
