Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal today said Rs 32,275 crore has been spent so far on creating world-class road infrastructure in the state.
Laying the foundation stone for the strengthening and widening of the 31.7-km Sri Satguru Brahmsagar Bhuri Wale Marg, he said the project, which would benefit 40 villages in the area, will be completed in four months.
The deputy chief minister said a sum of Rs 2,000 crore is being spent on making the road from Rupnagar to Phagwara a four-lane one while Rs 600 crore has been earmarked for widening the road from Banga to Sri Anandpur Sahib and Mata Naina Devi from 18ft to 33ft.
Badal also announced that the villages facing drinking water scarcity would be connected with rural water supply bodies.
In the state where Assembly polls are due next year, he also said that in the coming four months, the Shiromani Akali Dal government would provide employment to 1,25,000 youths while 10,000 youths would be recruited into the police force.
Regarding skills training, he said that two centres -- each with the capacity to train 1,000 youths -- would be opened in every block in the state.
Punjab has witnessed "rapid development" under the SAD-BJP government, Badal said as he claimed that Congress "cannot list even a single achievement".
Targeting AAP, he said the party has no base in Punjab and its convener Arvind Kejriwal "cannot feel the pulse of the masses". The people of Punjab would not fall into Kejriwal's trap as they have given befitting reply to outsiders, he said.
Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Madan Mohan Mittal said there is a long-pending demand among the people for the widening of roads.
He also cautioned people against forces "inimical to peace in Punjab".
