Over 370 contestants file nomination

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his predecessor Prafulla Kumar Mahanta are among over 370 contestants who filed their nomination papers today on the last date for the first phase of the assembly elections scheduled for April 4, the election office said here.
The 80-year-old veteran Congress leader and Chief Minister filed his nomination papers from the prestigious Titabor Assembly constituency seeking re-election for the fourth consecutive term.
Among other prominent candidates who filed their nominations today are former two-time AGP chief minister Mahanta from Baharampur, AGP former president Brindaban Goswami, Congress former ministers Prodyut Bordoloi from Margherita and Pranati Phukan from Naharkatiya.

High profile Bodo People's Front candidate and former minister sitting MLA Promila Rani Brahma filed her nomination from Kokrajhar East, rebel AGP leader Abhijit Hazarika as Independent from Rangapara, ex-minister Hitendra Nath Goswami (BJP), Congress ministers Prithivi Majhi from Lahoal, Bwismita Gogoi from Khumtai.
The scrutiny will be done tomorrow while the last date of withdrawal is March 21 for 65 of the 126 assembly constituencies which go to polls in the first phase on April 4.
