The Delhi government has decided to create 9,623 additional teaching posts in its schools and provide age relaxation and weightage marks to contract/guest teachers of government schools in the recruitment process in its attempt to improve quality of education in the state.
"The 9,623 additional teaching posts created by the government will be filled through an online test that will be conducted by a public sector company-- Education Consultant India Ltd (EdCIL)," a senior government official said.
It has been decided to recommend age relaxation and an additional weightage for experience to eligible, contract based/guest teachers working at schools run by Delhi Government's Directorate of Education (DoE), he said.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had suggested that candidates who worked as guest teachers and contract teachers of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) in the previous years may be given age relaxation and weightage marks as a onetime measure by linking to the years of service rendered by them with appropriate conditions.
The Education department proposal cleared by the Delhi Cabinet includes the posts of Principals- 25, Vice-Principals- 365, PGT-4940, TGT- 2933, Physical Education Teachers- 860, Drawing Teachers- 256, Librarians- 38, and Lab Assistants- 206, the official said.
The entire recruitment process will be done on behalf of Directorate of Education and EdCIL will provide back end support as service provider, he said.
The government will incur an annual additional financial burden of about Rs 540 crore under the plan, on account of filling up the 9,623 newly created posts.
During the current financial year, 2015-16, an amount of Rs 666 crore has been provided to meet the likely expenditure on account of existing as well as newly created posts, he added.
