The incident came to light when the owner of the shop at Thiruvanmiyur noticed that a lock of the adjacent medical shop was broken this morning, they said.
Some things were missing in the medical shop too, they said.
The owner of the pawn broking shop told police that he was in his shop till nine pm yesterday.
He told the police that 92 sovereigns of gold ornaments were looted by burglars.
