Three new polio cases were detected today in different areas of Pakistan as the country grapples with the spread of the crippling disease.
According to the Prime Minister's Polio Cell, these three latest victims of polio virus belong to North and South Waziristan area of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
Sources from the Prime Minister's Polio Cell added that almost 66 cases have been reported countrywide so far in the current year, Dawn News reported.
Last week, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made it mandatory for the people of seven northwestern tribal districts to be immunised against the polio virus before they enter heavily populated areas of the country.
North Waziristan is considered a home to 160,000 unvaccinated children since August 2012.
Previously, six cases were found in other parts of FATA which is directly governed by the federal government.
Nearly a week ago, two new polio cases were detected in the country.
The army also supports the campaign by giving oral polio vaccine to children in North Waziristan since the Taliban banned vaccination there, according to sources.
Pakistan faced international humiliation when the World Health Organisation (WHO) imposed travel restrictions on the country on May 5 for failure to curb the polio virus.
The WHO's travel advisory for Pakistanis travelling abroad makes anti-polio vaccination mandatory.
Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria are the only countries in the world where polio remains endemic.
