"If India exhibits good intentions, Pakistan also desire amicable ties with its neighbouring country," Asif was quoted as saying by Radio Pakistan.
Blaming India for the downturn in the bilateral relations, Asif said: "The extremist mentality with which (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi soared to great heights, the same mentality has now triggered his fall."
Asserting that Pakistan is fully capable of defending itself from "Indian aggression", Asif said that India spoiled the atmosphere and created distances.
