Pak journalist alleges kidnap, torture

A senior journalist at a leading television network in Pakistan claimed that he had been kidnapped and tortured here today.
Karachi bureau chief of Geo TV, Fahim Siddiqui, said he was forcibly picked up and tortured before his kidnappers dumped him in the Manghopir area.
"We are investigating the whole episode and according to Fahim his vehicle was intercepted by four people, three of them wearing police uniforms who took him and tortured him," senior police official Feroze Shah said.
Fahim had a licensed pistol with him which he claimed the kidnappers snatched from him besides his mobile, Shah said.

The DIG West said initial investigations confirmed the three men in policemen were not policemen and they were not travelling in a police vehicle.
Fahim alleged that the suspects wore police uniforms.

"They intercepted me and subjected me to torture after identification," he stated.
Federal interior minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan also took notice of the incident and directed officials to conduct a probe.
Geo TV which is a part of Pakistan's largest media group, the Jang Group, has faced problems with the government in the past and its senior anchor and Islamabad bureau chief, Hamid Mir was also attacked by a gunman last year but survived.
