Pakistani authorities are yet to receive the report of the autopsy of an Indian fisherman who died in mysterious circumstances in a jail in Karachi, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said today.
Responding to questions on the death of fisherman Kishore Bhagwan on Tuesday, Aslam said the Foreign Ministry is yet to receive the autopsy report.
She noted that media reports had stated he was ill for a long time.
"We have not got any details. We have seen reports that he was ill for a long time," Aslam told a weekly news briefing.
"I understand that there is a question of a dead body (of another fisherman) who died earlier. These issues are being discussed. We are working with the Indian High Commission," she said.
In the second incident of its kind in less than two months, Bhagwan was found dead in Landhi jail. Indian diplomatic sources said the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.
On December 19, fisherman Bhikha Laka Shival, 35, died in a jail in Karachi and the cause of his death too is yet to be established. His body has not yet been handed over to Indian authorities.
The Indian government has approached Pakistan to speed up the process of sending back Shiyal's body, which has been kept in a morgue.
Bhagwan was among more than 50 Indian fishermen arrested for allegedly entering Pakistan's Exclusive Economic Zone in January last year. He escaped from jail a month later and was recaptured in December last year.
Pakistani media reports quoted police as saying that he lived on the roads of Karachi after his escape.
