The government of Pakistan's Punjab province will launch an e-learning platform, the first of its kind, to make textbooks freely available online.
The system will be augmented with video lectures, assessments, simulations, animations and user contributed content.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will launch the initiative tomorrow.
"eLearn Punjab is an important component in Punjab's education roadmap. We have made this platform to crowd source content from our users, which will make textbooks richer and enhance the overall learning experience," said Umar Saif, Chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board.
The platform is aimed at encouraging the use of educational technologies by providing digitised content, supplementary resources, and online assessment tools for students and educators.
As a first step, digitised versions of science text books for the 9th and 10th grades will be made available online along with links to supplementary material on the web.
In future, the same content can be pre-loaded into laptops or tablets, or made available as CDs.
The introduction of online self-assessment features and centralised course management tools for public schools is also planned.
