It may be recalled that four policemen attached to the Vasai division traffic police who had allegedly beaten up a man and takien away Rs 25,000 from him were arrested by the district police on Sunday (April 21).
Complainant Madankumar Pokhar Mahato (30) of Silvassa was waylaid by four cops who identified themselves as police crime branch officials.
They accused Mahato of selling gutka and threatened to arrest him after which they beat him up as well as burnt him with cigarette butts.
Taking a serious view of the incident, DYSP Pradeep Jadhav acted swiftly and traced the car to its Bhiwandi-based owner Madhukar Jadhav who had given the car to his son-in-law Raju Chavan from Vasai.
The Kasa police arrested all the four who happened to be policemen.
They were identified as Raju Chavan, Suresh Rathod, Raju Shaikh and Jitendra Chowgule as well as charged under Section 341, Section 342, Section 364 and Section 394 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
