Noisy scenes were witnessed in the Rajasthan Assembly during the entire Question Hour today as opposition Congress legislators protested demanding a complete loan-waiver for farmers.
Congress lawmakers, who were sitting on a dharna in the House from yesterday afternoon, continued their protest as the assembly met today.
They trooped into the Well of the House shouting slogans for a complete farm loan-waiver as the lawmakers assembled to begin the House proceedings at 11 am today.
The proceedings continued amid uproar as the Speaker Kailash Meghwal did not pay any heed to the protesting legislators.
Some of the Congress legislators started delivering speeches in the assembly, to which the Speaker said everyone wants the House to run but the opposition was disrupting the proceedings.
BJP MLA Jogaram Patel countered Congress' protest with slogan of 'Saaf Karo, Saaf Karo, Congress ko Saaf Karo (send the Congress packing)' as his party colleagues joined him.
In the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly, the BJP has 160 MLAs while the Congress has 24 members.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore said those who did not work for the farmers in 56 years of their rule are shedding tears in the name of farmers' welfare.
Rathore was joined by Agriculture Minister Prabhu Lal Saini and Home Minister Gulab Chand Material when he said that government was ready to debate farm issues, if the Congress legislators cooperate.
They accused the Congress of disrupting the House proceedings and not ready to discuss the issues on facts.
In response, the Congress MLAs said it was ready to debate farmers issues but only if the state government announces the loan waiver first.
Agriculture Minister Saini said the government has constituted a high-power committee to submit recommendation on farm loan waiver.
The commotion spilled into the Zero Hour and the Speaker adjourned the House for half an hour.
