A 25-year-old man from neighbouring Panipat drowned in the Yamuna river at Kairana near here Sunday while taking bath along with his three other friends in the overflowing river, said police.
The victim's three friends, however, were rescued by local youths, they said.
Victim Deepu had come to Kairana in Shamli district from Panipat in Haryana along with his three friends Mohit, Vikas and Hemant, they added.
They stepped into the overflowing river near Yamuna bridge and waded into deep water when they were swept away by strong currents.
On seeing them struggling for life, local youths jumped into the river and managed to rescue all of them and rushed them to local hospital.
Deepu, however, could not be revived in the hospital, the police said.
