Pop idol David Cassidy, who was recently hospitalised after organ failure, has died. He was 67.
The news of his death was announced by his publicist Jo- Ann Geffen, reported CNN.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy.
"David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years," said Geffen in a statement.
Cassidy had in February revealed that he has Non- Alzheimer Dementia, the same condition his mother Evelyn Ward had suffered from.
After appearing as Keith Partridge on the hit series "The Partridge Family" from 1970 to 1974, Cassidy went on to produce several successful albums and appear on TV shows including "David Cassidy Man Undercover."
He also made guest appearances on shows including "Fantasy Island," "The Love Boat" and "Tales of the Unexpected."
Cassidy, however, has had numerous personal problems in the decades following his initial success, ranging from substance abuse to bankruptcy.
He is survived by his children, Beau and Katie, his stepmother Shirley Jones, and his half-brothers Shaun, Ryan and Patrick.
