The incident took place around 4 AM this morning, when the men boarded a general compartment of Bandra-Muzaffarpur Avadh Express at Bharthana railway station, said Tripurari Pandey, GRP inspector at Kanpur Central railway station.
The passengers, who were returning home for Diwali, were robbed of cash worth Rs 30,000 and 12 mobile phones, he said adding, the accused also shot at a youth identified as Ashu (26) when he protested.
The injured youth was admitted to a hospital and is stated to be out of danger, he said.
Based on complaints by twelve passengers, a case was registered, Pandey said, adding, further investigation in the matter is on.
