Patna Mayor Afzal Imam was today removed from chair in a No-Confidence motion brought by ward councillors levelling charges of incompetence and misbehaviour among others.
PMC Commissioner Kapil Ashok Shirshat said, "Of the 52 ward councillors present on the occasion of taking up no-confidence motion which was tabled on June 28, a total of 42 took part in voting."
"The motion received a support of 38 councillors," he said.
Imam was also blamed of having nexus with 'billboard mafia', neglect of solid waste management and public welfare services.
While 52 ward councillors, of total 72 belonging to Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) had assembled, 42 finally took part in votiing.
Imam needed 37 votes to retain his position, but could muster only four.
Shirshat added that he will now send a report to State Election Commission (SEC), which will then fix a date for the election of next mayor.
According to the rules a new Mayor will have to be elected within 30 days after the position fell vacant.
